As a first generation college graduate, I had to overcome and push through many obstacles to keep moving forward to make college graduation a reality. Learning has never come easily to me, and I often have to read something multiple times to understand or retain the information.

As a Biology major, I utilized every tutor and help session that was offered. Friday and Saturday nights were dedicated to studying, which is what it took for me to survive Organic Chemistry. For various reasons, my family was unable to offer me any financial support in paying for my education and it was a struggle. At one point, I did not have enough funds to cover the costs of my books. This did not stop me. I knew that my goals had to outweigh the challenges. I persevered, but also faced the reality that I had to transfer colleges because of financial reasons. Thus, my junior year included a transfer, change of major, and facing the challenges of a new college system. I graduated with honors and I understand how hard work, perseverance, and agility were the foundation of my success.
